Alan heads up SOG’s Safety, Health and Environment consultancy team, SHE Group, and is responsible for the Heath security operation. He is also the company secretary.
All his 43 working years have been spent at The Heath, firstly with ICI and later as a director of SOG Ltd. He began his career in 1964 as a polymer research chemist and later worked with a biotechnology group. After qualifying as a professional safety adviser, he joined the ICI Mond Division safety team in 1982 and in 1995 transferred into the Chemicals and Polymers business as research and technology safety manager.
At SOG, he is responsible for transforming an in-house single-company resource into an international safety consultancy whose clients include such industry giants as Shell International Petroleum, Cadbury Trebor Bassett, Kraft Foods and Warburtons Bakery.
He is also responsible for the development of the highly successful Deal With It behavioural safety programme which has helped to change the safety culture in hundreds of workplaces across the world.
