Bob brings considerable experience to his role as SOG’s human resources manager, engineering and infrastructure manager and external facilities management contract manager.
He has been responsible for establishing SOG’s HR department, designing and developing the new style laboratory facilities and developing the external facilities management business.
He started his career in 1961 as an apprentice mechanical engineer for a Huddersfield company but in 1968 decided to broaden his horizons and spent the next six years as an engineering officer with British India Ltd, based in Bombay. During that time he was involved in the French nuclear test programme in the South Pacific and was seconded to work in shipyards in Japan, India, Australia and Norway, carrying out sea trials on new and repaired ships.
He then spent a year with Hopkinson Engineers before moving to ICI Runcorn, where he worked in a variety of manufacturing and research-based roles for 25 years before becoming a director of SOG in 2000.
